Greater Detroit Cooperative Preschool Teacher's Association (GDCPTA) was birthed out of The Greater Detroit Cooperative Nursery Council (GDCNC), an organization created to provide guidance and assistance to area co-op nursery and preschools and their families.
On October 22, 1955 the Teacher's Auxiliary of the Greater Detroit Cooperative Nursery Council was formed to address the special needs of teachers working in parent cooperative preschools. In November 1972, the name of the organization was changed to Teachers Association of the Greater Detroit Cooperative Nursery Council. In June of 2007, we became Greater Detroit Cooperative Preschool Teachers Association as we are known today.
While we are an organization of mostly co-op preschool teachers, we welcome all preschool teachers to our group. We believe we offer outstanding workshops and services that will empower, educate, and make you proud to work in the field of Early Childhood Education.
The purpose of the Preschool Teacher's Association is:
to provide continuing education for teachers
to raise the level of programming in preschools
to give teachers the opportunity to share and evaluate their experiences
to increase understanding of Cooperative Preschools
to create solutions for those unique to the preschool environment
Membership is open to anyone interested in the purpose of this organization.
